Every year, top paint manufacturers predict the hot colour trends in paint and design that will influence the upcoming season, and 2018 is no different. There are spectacular palettes on the horizon this year, ranging from natural and sophisticated to vibrant and complex. Check out the following colour choices forecasted for this year by four influential paint companies.
Sherwin Williams
The Sherwin Williams 2018 Color of the Year is the accessible and elusive Oceanside, a “collision of rich blue with jewel-toned green.” The team at Sherwin Williams decided on a blue-based hue for 2018 due to the “multitude of moods and associations” the colour can evoke.
Blue is known as being the number one colour across cultures and landscapes, and brings with it a sense of calm. As the name suggests, Oceanside is a marine-inspired balance of blues and greens and can be used in a variety of rooms and situations.
Sherwin Williams says this complex, versatile colour “can create a welcoming statement as a lively color for a front door…boost creative thinking and clarity of thought in a home office, or invite meditation and introspection into a bedroom or reading nook.” Oceanside can also fit into any design scheme, whether your style is traditional or modern.
Benjamin Moore
Benjamin Moore predicts that the colour for 2018 will be Caliente, “a vibrant, charismatic shade of red, [that is] is strong, radiant and full of energy.” Ellen O’Neill, the Director of Strategic Design Intelligence for Benjamin Moore describes the colour as “total confidence” as it is reminiscent of old Hollywood and the red carpet. The colour is bold personified, and can be used as an accent feature or on all four walls.
The Benjamin Moore Colour & Design team selected Caliente following a “year-long research journey to 30 cities across 12 countries, traveling nearly 100,000 miles.” This bold red hue was selected based on its international emergence across industries, including “the arts, design, architecture, pop culture, fashion, home furnishings, and more.”
Consider pairing Caliente with other hues from the Colour Trends 2018 palette, which includes 23 highly influential colours like an opulent white, calming neutrals or complimentary bold hues for a statement-making design!
